While Newton was in college he wrote his ideas in a journal. Isaac Newton had new ideas about motion which he wrote about in his journal caling them his three laws of motion.
According to Newtons first law of motion an object that is at rest or moving will remain this way unless acted upon by an unbalanced force, this is often called ‘the law of inertia’. What does this mean? This means that there is a natural tendency of objects to keep doing what they’re doing and all objects resist changes in their state of motion. According to Newtons second law of motion an object will accelerate in the direction of an unbalanced force acting upon it. The size of this acceleration depends upon the mass of the object and the size of the force acting, (a larger force is required to accelerate a heavy load). To calculate force the mass must be multipled by the acceleration, to calculate acceleration the force must be divided by mass and to calculate the mass the force must be divided by the acceleration. According to Newtons third law of motion for every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force. |
